I have been thinking about adding curtains to a few rooms in our summer place. I usually prefer to keep the windows clear and to bring in as much natural light as possible but I realize a little fabric is needed. As you know, we decided on black windows, so I want to let them be the focus of attention! I will most likely begin with the bedroom shades and blinds before deciding about the bigger windows downstairs. Think I need to move in first for the rest, but here are some images and thoughts…
I imagine 2 styles of curtains for our summer house, a few long curtains and some roman shades or simple blinds in a couple of bedrooms. Again, just a few here and there to ad warmth, texture and to soften up areas.
In many cases the long curtains also work well if you need to hide outlets or radiators. Ideally, I prefer to hang the curtains as high up to the ceiling as possible, and have them pushed away from the window, off to the side and just let them hang beautifully in a corner or so… (and if and when you need to take cover from sunlight or curious neighbors, you just pull em´forward!
I am and always will be a big fan of the linen curtains. I know trends suggest that we are choosing heavier, thicker fabrics and darker colors but that is not the look and feel I am going for in our summer house. In Mölle, I want it light, thin and fresh!
Roman shades are practical and classic. And today, you can find a lot of beautiful affordable ones from different brands in all common standard window sizes. Don´t need to order the super duper special custom-made ones any more. Also, if you have the time some models are actually pretty easy to make yourself. Below a few favorites I found while browsing through Pinterest.
I love waking up to the morning sunlight, so I have personally never really needed the blackout roller blinds in the bedrooms – the thin, see through versions below are just the thing for me and what I will be going for in our summer house as well.
I realize the images I have selected today – shows its obvious that I prefer the neutral light colors and fairly see through materials. Again, one reason is because of the black windows I feel the extra need to keep it calm and simple around them but also it is a summer house we are building and white or neutral colors ad to that summer feel. Last but least, the light, thin fabrics don´t stop the natural light completely from making its way in …remember, there are a few months in Sweden when you are crazy craving for that light inside the house. Maybe if we would have gone with white windows I would at least have considered color, maybe.
But it doesn´t stop me from admiring others that actually have chosen color and patterns, like the ones below…
Hm, I had an idea – maybe I should challenge myself and make a goal and promise to ad a colorful or pattern curtain in one of the rooms in this coming house. Maybe the laundry room… even I should be able to do that, right? Yes, its a deal, its a promise!
Have a wonderful week everyone and as always – thank you for reading and coming back to my blog every week. I feel honored.
Hugs
